TONIGHT!

Join us on TONIGHT, September 29, for an event celebrating of our freedom to read – and view – great works of literature at a special double feature movie screening. The movies being screened are based on books that have been challenged or banned in the United States over the years.  The screenings begin at 4:30 pm with The Wizard of Oz, based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and The Color Purple, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, will screen at 6:30 pm.

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it highlights the value of free and open access to information. Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community – librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types – in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.  For more information about Banned Books Week, visit www.bannedbooksweek.org.

Celebrate your freedom to read - read a banned book this week!  And join us at the movies!
