Want to exhibit at the Burnett Gallery?

Applications to exhibit in the Burnett Gallery of the Jones Library for the season beginning June 2014 are now available. They are due in the Jones Library Office by 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. The jury process begins thereaft er. Individuals and groups in Amherst and surrounding towns are welcome to apply. See the application form for more details. Paper copies are displayed on the metal rack in the library atrium and also at the reference desk. You may also see them at other locations. The similar online version is available at  www.joneslibrary.org/burnett .

Artist-in-Residence Chris Demarest!

Saturday, July 20, 10am-12pm The Woodbury Room of the Jones Library Artist-in-Residence Chris Demarest began working on a visual tribute to the Greatest Generation over two years ago at the Women’s Memorial at the gates of Arlington Natio nal Cemetery. Inspired by a single black and white photograph of a WW II fighter pilot, this traveling exhibit now encompasses over 70 portraits of veterans. Demarest’s hometown is Amherst, making Amherst the logical beginning of the national tour of the exhibit. His father, a C-47 pilot, is one of eight Amherst WW II veterans whose portraits hang at the Jones Library. This event will include a Powerpoint presentation of the photographs, paintings and stories surrounding the exhibit. The public is encouraged to share their stories, photographs, and artifacts. Groundbreaking Reads

“Groundbreaking Reads” is the theme of the Jones Library’s 2013 Adult Summer Reading Program.  This program, which includes book recommendations, discussions, and prizes, is open to adults ages 18 and older. As a part of the program, there will two Brown Bag Book Discussions, led by librarian Linda Wentworth and a special guest local author, where the public is welcome to come and talk about the books they are enjoying this summer.  Bring your lunch and join the discussions on Wednesday, July 24 and Wednesday, August 21.
